Rough Tides Band

Rough Tides are a four piece band formed around the Glasgow musicians Simon McKerrell (UIlleann pipes, Scottish pipes, banjo) Padraig O’Neill (Button Box) with double bass and guitar/bouzouki. The band plays traditional Irish and Scottish tunes with a traditional sound. Simon McKerrell is an internationally known piper (Scottish Highland pipes and Uilleann pipes) who was a founding member of the Scottish folk group Back of the Moon. Rough Tides also feature Glasgow’s Padraig O’Neill from Kenmare in Kerry who is known as one of the best session musicians in Scotland and performs a strongly driving style of tradition Kerry-style button box playing. Accompaniment has been provided on guitar, bouzouki and double bass over the years by Julia Reid, Andrew Gifford, Ewan Robertson, Ally Hutton and Stef Baxter.  The band are known for their up-beat, traditional interpretation of traditional Irish and Scottish tunes.
